African Organization for Health and Development (AHDO) is an international non-governmental organization founded in Geneva, Switzerland and established its national office in Kinshasa under a special agreement with the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). Our activities take place in the Democratic Republic of Congo, working to improve the conditions and the quality of life (especially in the area of health and malnutrition) of the population within the framework of the Socio-economic and Sustainable Development of the country.
Legal Framework
African Health Development Organization (AHDO) is a non-governmental humanitarian organization based in DRC since 2018. AHDO has the same legal rights as any international organization based in DRC as specified in its Headquarters Agreement signed on October 02, 2018 between AHDO and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representing the Congolese Government. It was issued its Tax Exemption number A2024921L from the Ministry of Finance in January 2020.
AHDO has the notarial act No. 2308443/2019 obtained on July 16, 2019 and an agreement with PRONANUT signed on June 02, 2020. It has a legal identity, statutes, and F.92/38 428 (No. JUST/SG/20/1935/2020) issued by the Ministry of Justice on July 22, 2020.
AHDO aims to contribute to the sustainable development of the DRC by promoting the nutritional well-being of the population. AHDO works to ensure the prevention, surveillance and management of nutritional diseases; and to promote animal and plant production and good consumption. Its areas of interventions include (a) Community food security in support of Income Generating Activities (IGAs); (b) Promotion of good food and nutritional practices for local foods; (c) Health zones, health areas, health care providers, shelters, community leaders, nutritional monitoring of the population, growth monitoring and promotion; and (d) Support for nutrition initiatives and activities in the community. AHDO draws on primary health care strategies especially on: (a) improving household food security; (b) promotion of good food and nutritional practices; and (c) prevention of deficiency diseases whereby implementing the NAC approach.
Our organization is also involved in the following intervention areas: Agriculture promotion and food security as well as Hygiene and Sanitation. In fact AHDO is a non-government, non-profit Organization founded by people concerned with health and malnutrition and food security in the DRC and legally recognized as an organization working on health, malnutrition, and sustainable development aspects in the DRC.
AHDO has a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Health (PRONANUT) aiming to promote health and combat malnutrition in the DRC, food security and related issues at national level as well as an ongoing MOU (under process) with UNFPA meant to support programs to help improve reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, adolescent health and nutrition indicators for the Congolese populations. AHDO also signed an MOU of partnership with various partners (please refer to our Partnerships section).
